Silicium-Carbide-Based Isolated DC/DC Converter for Medium-Voltage Photovoltaic Power Plants

The production of large-scale photovoltaics (PVs) is becoming increasingly popular in the field power generation; they require construction plants several hundred megawatts. Nevertheless, these PV with conventional low-voltage (LV) conversion systems not an appropriate technological path. Particularly, large cross-section cables, a high quantity semiconductors, and bulky layout 50/60-Hz step-up transformers make system less competitive terms energy efficiency cost. To overcome drawbacks, this paper introduces new plant topologies intermediate medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) collector that requires galvanic isolation for connecting arrays. Then, design electronic transformer (PET) proposed, implementing 1.7-kV 3.3-kV silicium carbide (SiC) modules. study confirms converter allows use medium-frequency (MF) densities while maintaining efficiency, which facilitates implementation isolated (MV) utility-scale plants.
